Information about Austria
Placed in the south of central Europe, it has nine federal states: Vienna, Bugenland, Estiria, Carintia Lowers Austria, Alta Austria, Salzburg, Tirol and Vorarlberg, includes part of the Oriental Alps and of the basin of the Danube. Austria borders on the Czech Republic and Germany in the northern part, on Hungary and Slovakia in the eastern part, on Switzerland and Liechtenstein in the western part and on Italy and Slovenia in the southern part.
The capital is Vienna. The principal cities are Salzburg, Bregenz, Graz and Innsbruck. The currency is the Euro and the official language is German.
Austria is characterized by its several lakes, its green valleys, its beautiful cities, the beautiful mountainous landscapes and the magnificent Alps, in which a variety of winter sports can be practised, turning Austria into a vacation destination all the year round.
