Ibiza is the third largest island of the Balearic Islands and well known for its pleasant climate, its beautiful landscape, and its fascinating night life. The capital is Ibiza city (in Catalan: Ciutat d’Eivissa or just Eivissa and among locals simply called Vila) and located on the southeast coast of the island. It is one of the most important places of the island and at the same time the biggest city with an approx. population of 44.000 inhabitants. The city is generally divided into 2 parts, the old town (called Dalt Vila) and the modern part (called Eixample). In 1999, the Dalt Vila and the massive defense wall was declared UNESCO world heritage because of its uniqueness and its historic value. Eivissa is a very lively city and multilingualism is nothing special, since many different nationalities are living there peacefully together. Thus, Ibiza is a mix of tradition and culture combined with modernity and trendiness. The city offers a rich variety of entertainment, cultural events, culinary richness, sports, urban flair, and much more. Ibiza is a place, which you should not miss and which you will love for its beauty and diversity.
As you have some time to discover the island and you would like to see the traditional Ibiza away from the busy city life, you should drop over at the following places: the monument (“the egg”) in Sant Antoni, which was made in honor of Christopher Columbus, the “God’s Finger” in the Benirràs Bay or the “Balàfia” in Sant Joan de Labritja, which are former defense towers of the Arabics.
Ibiza is also known for its vibrating and fascinating nightlife. In the 1980s, a new style of electronic music was created on the island: the Balearic beat, which is a mix of dance music influenced by a DJ. Besides, you can find the world’s biggest nightclub close to the city of Sant Rafael called Privilege. This club is usually mentioned along with Pacha, Amnesia, Es Paradís or DC10, which are always worth to make a short detour.
